Customer-facing engineering / Applied AI
Make the
complex
work.
I’m Nick Osborn. I turn messy customer needs into working systems - from enterprise integrations and AI-assisted workflows to SaaS products and critical communications.
At the intersection
Discovery → architecture → delivery
I work close to the people and the problem, then build a path from a useful prototype to something teams can actually use.
01 / Selected work
Built around
real problems.
Five examples across AI integration, customer data, independent product building and enterprise delivery. Each project shows the problem, my contribution and the approach.
Pimberly
Enterprise MCP Integration
Turning a laborious custom demo workflow into a set of focused tools for faster, more relevant customer demonstrations.
Pimberly · anonymised customer engagement
Onboarding a Fragmented Product Catalogue
Turning seven changing source feeds and real customer data into a usable product model and downstream outputs.
Client project
Fabric Finder
Helping textile buyers turn an open-ended brief into an explainable shortlist of fabrics.
PropertyPipeline
PropertyPipeline
Building and operating a specialist SaaS platform shaped by the day-to-day work of property investors.
Previous consulting engagements
Enterprise Communications Delivery
Leading migrations and integrations where networks, legacy telephony and live operations all have to meet.
02 / How I work
Engineer.
Translator.
Builder.
I’m most useful when the problem is only partly defined, the systems are complicated and the solution has to work for real people.
My work spans presales discovery, hands-on solution architecture, integrations, AI-assisted development and operational delivery. I start with the workflow and constraints, choose the smallest useful building blocks, then test the result with the people who will use it.
In discovery, I work through the customer's current process with the people who own each step. I use their data and prior conversations, prepare questions around the gaps, and map the workflow before deciding what to build. AI can accelerate transcript and data analysis, but I keep the process understanding and decisions with me.
That also means establishing boundaries early. In one portal evaluation I mapped detailed access and asset requirements against the product's actual capabilities, explored an alternative already used by the customer's business, and made the gaps clear while there was still room to choose a workable route. I bring the same discipline to technical and non-functional requirements responses.
I use coding agents as part of the development process. My contribution includes framing the problem, designing the system and interfaces, directing implementation, evaluating results and resolving the gaps between a demo and a usable solution.

The next conversation
From a real problem
to a working system.
If this is the sort of work you need, I'd be glad to talk.
